Natural Play for Children are proud to be stocking another book by a local author - Kimberley McEwan.

I Have a Little Secret is a protective education tool that has been designed for parents, educators, carers and allied health professionals to use as a starting point for gently introducing children to personal body safety concepts.

Whilst it is not a therapeutic tool, but rather; a preventative resource, I Have a Little Secret approaches the topic of child sexual abuse in a gentle, non-confrontational way to open up opportunities for discussions surrounding secrets, protective behaviours, and body safety with the hope of reducing the risk of children becoming victims of sexual harm. As we know, 1 in 5 children will be sexually abused by the time they turn 18 years of age, so it is important to start having these conversations from an early age so that children can begin to recognise situations that are unsafe and learn how and who they should go and tell. This is our best chance at protecting our children from becoming victims of abuse and in helping to put a stop to the abuse sooner rather than later.

The book has been designed to use with children aged 5-8 and includes language and conversation starters to help guide this journey with children and information on what to do if a disclosure is made.

I Have a Little Secret also aims to empower children to find the courage and their voice to speak out, and is a timely reminder to tell this type of secret again and again until somebody believes them.
